Build It tournament leaves good impression
Three days of nail-biting football action saw Glencoe crowned the eventual champions of the Zululand Build It U13 Soccer Festival held at Grantham Park Primary School on Sunday, 10 August 2014.
Glencoe beat Richardia 5-4 on penalties to win the 16-school tournament which saw the AmaZulu Community Trust pledging its support as Usuthu Chief Scout, Joel Faya, was on hand to spot talent alongside Mpho Dintwa and Philani Mabaso.
In the Plate Final Grantham Park beat Dundee to grab the silverware. Jackie Pillay of Build It said that as sponsors, they were pleased that interest among the participants this year was a notch higher as Grantham Park hosted the spectacle for the second year running.
“Without the commitment and dedication of the staff from Zululand Build It, Grantham Park Primary School and the support from our generous suppliers, this event could not be a success.
“It is every young player’s dream to be part of a bigger soccer brand and with the partnership of AmaZulu FC this dream could hopefully be realised,” said Pillay.
The winners bagged a R10 000 make over for their school as well as a full soccer kit. Build It are current sponsors of the AmaZulu U13 team.
AmaZulu Community Trust Programs Manager, Mpho Dintwa also lauded the efforts behind uplifting youth by the building materials’ store.
“We’re only honoured to be part of this initiative by Build It and we hope this tournament leaves an everlasting impression on the children and all schools involved because that’s much more valuable.
“Communities need many more caring companies such as Build It,” said Dintwa.
The three days were nothing short of entertainment both on and off the field. Maskandi artist David Jenkins whose popular stage name Qadasi means ‘white man’, performed on the opening night of the tournament. Local dance acts, the Dorks and the Nerds wowed the crowd with their impressive dance moves.
Throughout the tournament spectators won a host of goodies from co-sponsors and suppliers Coverlands, Duram Smart Paints, Zikiza and Lasher, to name a few.
