First time participants, Edamini Primary School who represented KZN in the national finals lost out narrowly for top honours in the KIA Street Soccer for 2012 when they were beaten in the final.

The KIA Street Soccer showpiece is a collaborative effort between the AmaZulu Community Trust and organizers, Sporting Chance who’ve since 2010 have been bringing the game to the school kids.
Sporting Chance, Project & Foundation Coordinator Wonga Matshabane expressed delight in the level of football all 14 teams dished up in the 2012 edition.
“One thing I’ve noticed is the style has improved, I saw some youngsters have some emphasis on one touch football which I think makes it all interesting.
Of course not all of these kids will make it into professional football but they will at least will have had a once in a lifetime experience of playing in a tournament like this,” said Matseba.
The latter’s words might ring true in the case of Edamini’s goal keeper, Snethemba Mhlongo. The young lady was able to keep her team above water throughout the tournament, making important save after save.
Former AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana coach, Clive Barker said the AmaZulu Trust initiative has been an astounding success.
