Defy co-ordinators equipped with life skills
The AmaZulu Community Trust hosted a day-long life skills training seminar ahead of next year’s Defy school’s football programme at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this week. Co-ordinators as far as Ladysmith and in Umlazi and Hammarsdale were taught how to roll out knowledge needed when the programme kick starts in the new year.
Facilitator Sipho Ndlovu said of the session: “This will play a very important role going forward because whatever they have learnt can be taken to the learners because it’s not always about soccer.
“The topics covered today are HIV & Aids, bullying and safe sex because these are the problems faced by young people at high schools and in the general community.
“There’s actually a need for these topics to be covered because they might be ignorant of the fact that this is what causes the increasing dropout levels in our schools and also the level of illiteracy and unemployment.
“AmaZulu have set some kind of an example even to some other clubs in the PSL because they did not limit this opportunity to just their own structures but have chosen to help the community and our children,” said Ndlovu.
